Let’s try on this thing

It is said that most young people in Hong Kong do not like reading and most of them usually prefer to read comics rather that general books, which have shown by studies that will benefit children from doing better in language subjects and Mathematics. In other words, reading generally is better than reading only comics.

　

First we have to study why there are so many young people who like reading comics and the drawbacks it brings to them. Actually, when we look in to the comics enthusiasts, it is not difficult to find that most of them usually read comics including violence and love. They read these kinds of materials because they can always obtain feelings of excitement and feelings of being loved or loving others. For young people, it is quite a common phenomenon as they need something to satisfy their curiosity, but surely, it is not he proper way. Reading these kinds of comics, young people may learn, unawares, the violence or the improper love information applied in the comics.

　

Because young people can hardly get useful information from comics, it is just a way of wasting money. A comic books in color is not cheap and usually costs more that ten dollars (or even more!). moreover, a comics enthusiast likes not only one kind of comics, but two, three, four… Apart from wasting money, it also wastes time. When you cannot learn any educational information from the comics, even you spend a minute I it will be waste of time. And you may argue that, from the beginning, you just regard it as a way to kill time, and thus there is ho such matter of wasting time. But do you think that there are many ways to kill time, which benefits you, such as playing sports, reading newspapers to get known of the world news etc.

　

Today what I want you to do is to try reading generally, but not reading comics again. As mentioned above, reading generally can help you do better in studies and get known of the world news. In fact, the benefits of reading generally are surely more than that. When you choose a right type of book and read it in leisure time, you will kill you time of course and, most importantly, learn something useful that comics cannot provide.

　

Furthermore, many educational books worth for people to read are stored in public libraries. So, young people, as thought to have no income at all, can go to the public library near their house to borrow books they like whenever they want. This is a good channel for people to get information and knowledge. This may also be the reason why there are so many public libraries in the territory. So, you should make very good use of it!

　

Most of all, reading generally helps you pave for the future, as the knowledge you have learned will always accompany you. When you encounter problems, it shows its value; when you talk to a foreigner, it shows its value; when you travel overseas and are in a new cultural environment, it shows its value. Remember only reading generally can benefit you like this, never reading comics.

Then you may ask how I can development a habit like this. Firstly, quit reading comics as soon as you can. Since comics will have a great appeal and will distract you from reading other kinds of books. Secondly, find some books interesting you to read. It is believed that only interesting books can bring one to the world of reading. Thirdly, expose yourself to a reading environment, for example, going to library more often. In this way, you may find the variety of books and thus choose the most suitable types of books for your own. Finally, if you are in favor of what I have said, ‘Let’s try on this thing’.
